Butcher’s Park was created by applying large packing labels to a promotional pamphlet from the e-learning company Epic (who have since re-branded as Leo)
When I initially started work on it, I’d intended to create illustrations for a fairytale, which centered around a kingdom set on top of a mountain, that kingdom’s relationship with its national emblem, and how a princess fell in love with a bird. Some of that was lost as I progressed, and got increasingly carried away, but if you look for them certain elements can still be found — for instance the mountain in the foreground of the right-hand page in Spread 2.
It was named Butcher’s Park because most of the drawing was done whilst I was sat in the park across the road from Smithfield’s Meat Market.
